3 Reasons to Install an Insulated Floor Under Your Cool Room
As you plan your new cool room, you'll eventually have to think about flooring. Your installer may recommend that you switch your current floor for one that is more insulated. Why is this important?
1. Maintain Optimum Internal Temperatures
Your cool room is there to keep its contents at the right temperature. While the room's mechanical system, like its evaporator and compressor units, do a lot of this work, the room also needs insulation. Your cool room will probably come with thermal panels inside the walls of the room and insulating material around the doors. However, your floor also plays a part here.
An uninsulated cool room floor affects internal temperature. Your controls may be set at the right cooling levels; however, if the floor isn't thermally efficient, then it may affect the actual temperature you get. It may make temperatures go up or even down.
If you put down insulated flooring, then the floor won't affect the ambient temperature in the room. This keeps your food or products at the right temperature.
2. Reduce Condensation Damage
If your cool room doesn't have an insulated floor, then it is more likely to develop problems with condensation. If the floor warms air at that level, then the warm air will rise. When it hits colder areas, it condenses.
This can be a bit of a headache. Condensation turns to moisture that might damage the things you store in the room. It can also get into parts of the room's system where it can do some damage, such as electrical areas.
If your flooring is insulated, then it shouldn't create a lot of condensation in the room. This will reduce the chances of storage or maintenance problems.
3. Control Operating Costs
An effective cool room works efficiently. However, a room without complete insulation may actually work inefficiently. If the floor of the room can't hold a suitable temperature or throws coolness levels in the rest of the room out of kilter, then the cooling system might have to work harder for longer to keep things cool all over the room.
This increases the room's running costs. However, an insulated floor puts less strain on the system, enabling it work more efficiently. This prevents you from wasting money.
If you aren't sure what to do with your floor, talk to your cool room installation company. They can help you choose the best type of insulated flooring for the room.
